Parallel Mesh Generation
Last spring, PMESH generated a 204 million element mesh using 1250 processors of the LLNL Blue Pacific machine.
- mesh was generated and written to disk in parallel in about 30 minutes.
- mesh was then used to run a LLNL physics simulation code on 5000 Blue Pacific processors.
- This was the first time the full Blue Pacific machine was used to run a single physics simulation.
PMESH has since generated meshes with over 508 million elements and run on 1600 processors.
- There are users ready for 1 billion element meshes, which tax the current machine's 32-bit integers.
