Paper Submission

The 21st International Meshing Roundtable solicits both full papers and research notes. The lists of topics for full papers and research notes are the same. As a rule, authors should not submit a full paper and a research note on the same topic in the same year. However, they may submit a research note in one year and submit a full paper in the following year on the same topic.

NOTE: Authors are requested to download a new copy of the paper templates each year and not use copies from previous years. This will ensure that all submissions conform to the requirements of the conference and the publisher.

Deadline Dates

Deadlines are all 11:59 pm Mountain Daylight Time (UTC-6 hours)

Full Paper Submission Deadline
: June 01, 2012 - extended to June 08, 2012 (no further extension will be given)
Paper Acceptance Notification: July 17, 2012
Final Camera-Ready Paper Submission Deadline: July 31, 2012
Research Notes Submission Deadline: July 31, 2012
Research Notes Notification: August 15, 2012

Full Papers (Peer-Reviewed)

Full papers must have original and significant contribution in order to be accepted. All papers will be rigorously peer-reviewed by reviewers selected by the program committee. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings and will also be available on a flash drive and on the IMR website. The proceedings are printed in black and white. Each accepted paper will be given a 20-minute slot for presentation plus 5 minutes for questions. At least one of the authors must register and attend the conference for a paper to be included in the proceedings.

Research Notes (Committee-Reviewed)

Research Notes are short articles describing exploratory research, preliminary results and techniques deemed to be relevant to the field of meshing.  The research notes will have only one submission and will be reviewed by the program committee.  Unlike full papers, there will not be a camera-ready submission of the accepted research notes.  A special session will be dedicated to presentations of research notes. The research notes will not be included in the proceedings, but will be included on a flash drive and on the IMR website. Each research note will be given a 10-minute slot for presentation plus 5 minutes for questions.

Format Requirements and Submission

Please use the following instructions while formatting and submitting your full paper and research notes:

  1. Format requirements (Full Paper and Research Notes)
    1. A full paper should be limited to 18 pages in length, including figures, tables, references and appendices.  A research note should be limited to 2000 words or 5 pages in length (whichever is shorter), including figures, tables, references and appendices.

    2. Full papers and research notes should use the same LaTeX or Word template.

    3. Either LaTex (strongly recommended, refer to 1d) or Microsoft Word (refer to 1e) can be used while preparing your paper. If you have downloaded the templates in previous years, you are requested to download a new copy of the templates this year. This will help ensure that all submissions conform to the requirements of the conference and the publisher.

    4. To use LaTeX template, download the tarball. Untar it where you like on your system using command "tar -xvf author-TeX.tar." Then, either read the detailed PDF documentation included, or use the author-pdf.tex sample file as a template. It is recommended to compile the document with pdflatex. The figures should also be in PDF format and should have high enough resolution (300 dpi or higher). Utilities such as gimp, epstopdf, etc., may be used to convert figures from other formats to PDF format. For authors who use LyX , the tarball also contains a LyX layout file svmult-imr.layout (tested for LyX 2.0.3).

    5. For Microsoft Word, use the template provided here. The zip file contains a template file, the instruction, and an example Word document. When converting to PDF using Microsoft Word, it is important to embed all fonts in the file.

  2. Initial paper submission (full paper and research note)
    1. Only PDF files are accepted in the initial submission

    2. All fonts need to be embedded in the PDF files (see section PDF Conversion Instructions).

  3. Final camera-ready submission (only accepted full paper)
    1. Both the PDF file and the source documents (M.S. Word or LaTeX files and figures) must be submitted.

    2. The copyright publishing agreement form is required (see below).

If you have questions, please contact paper submission technical support (dillavou@uab.edu) or call (205) 996-2033.

PDF Conversion Instructions

Once the paper is prepared, please convert the paper to PDF format. Please embed all fonts in the final PDF file.

If using pdflatex:
Most likely pdflatex is already configured to embed fonts in a PDF file on your UNIX system. To check yours, a useful tool is pdffonts. Run pdffonts over the produced pdf file from pdflatex, and make sure all fonts have “true” in the columns “emb” and “sub”. If some fonts are missing, you need to do the following:

  1. Run “updmap –edit” as root
  2. Edit the opened config file and set pdftexDownloadBase14 to true
  3. Rerun pdflatex.

Note that if you use PDF figures, you should make sure that all fonts are embedded in those files also.

If converting to PDF using Microsoft Word on Windows:

  1. From File menu, choose "print"
  2. Change Destination from "Printer" to "File" (located top right of General dialog box)
  3. From General, go to "Save as File"
  4. Change "Format" to "Acrobat PDF"
  5. Select "Embed All Fonts"
  6. Make "Downsample" settings is set for at least 72 dpi
  7. Click "SAVE"

Note: If you have a newer version of Microsoft Word you may need to have the full version of Adobe Acrobat or some other conversion software to convert your Word document to PDF.
